Weekend Sojourn: Fighting Sun Damage and Age; Women- this is for you

With summer in full swing everyone is out in hopes of getting that perfect summer tan. It’s wonderful to have that little hint of bronze; it brings some color to your face, and overall makes you look healthier.  The issue, though, is that, although you may love your summer tan, the sun’s UV rays damage your skin. In fact, 80% of skin aging is due to sun damage. If you’re someone who loves the sun, try Elite Therapeutics. The Elite Premier Crème, by Elite Therapeutics, is composed of ingredients that all actively work to fix your skin. Vitamin E in one of its purest forms is a main component in this formula—it helps to battle the effects of skin damage and oxidation. In addition, Sea Whip Extract is added to the crème, and is a soothing ingredient in treating sunburns. Finally, EUK-134 works to prevent the look of aging. What is unique about the ingredient EUK-134 is that it regenerates, so the more you use it, the better your skin becomes at fighting free radical damage.

As an avid lover of the sun, I decided to try out this product myself. After using it a few days I have noticed“calm” after a full day of sun (relief from the burn) and little less intense crow’s feet. The Elite Premier Crème retails for $65.

Time Capsules: Product — STEAMPUNK CHRONO FROM RJ-ROMAIN JEROME

Housed in a 50mm-diameter case, the Steampunk Chrono is devoid of any dial so wearers and admirers can witness the mechanical self-winding movement, composed of more than 300 parts and secured by 4 screw-down pistons symbolizing the brand’s “X” motif.   The Steampunk Chrono features a bezel in oxidized and stabilized steel stemming from the extraordinary fusion between the metal of the legendary Titanic wreck lying 3,840 meters below the sea, and provided by the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast where the Titanic was built a century ago. This bezel is held firmly in place by four steel, black PVD-coated or red gold “paws.”

Faithfully reflecting the Titanic-DNA style, the minutes and seconds counters pay tribute to an engine room-inspired, Steampunk style. Thanks to an innovative mechanism, a mobile propeller driven by the oscillating weight enlivens the dial at 6 o’clock, recalling the majestic propellers of the Titanic itself. The hands also pay homage to the anchor of the gigantic ocean liner.  The watch is created in a 2,012-piece limited edition.

Watch Stops: Las Vegas JCK, Couture 2012

As May gave way to June, retailers and watch brands in America flocked to Sin City for the U.S.A.’s most important jewelry and watch fairs: Couture and JCK Las Vegas.  View full story on WORLDTEMPUS – 15 June 2012
Several important themes took center stage: the emergence of smaller women’s watches in the 26-30 mm size; the concept of classic or vintage inspired men’s single-complication watches; and military and armed force-inspired pieces. It is expected that these directions will be the trendsetters in the American market this year.
Many brands were releasing smaller-sized women’s watches, often in two-tone cases and bracelets. Other brands showcased complex watches for women. Dior  made a strong statement with its stunning artistic-dial masterpieces brought stateside for this exhibition – showing incredible one-of-a-kind couture watches that blend mixed gemstone dials with diamonds and gems for magnificent luxury appeal.

Men’s watches made a prevailing statement throughout the show with emphasis clearly on vintage classic looks, single complications and military themes.  Graham London surprised retailers (and some press) with its incredible new Silverstone Tourbillograph, which won the Couture Time award for GrahamTechnical Excellence. Executives in the Graham suite were actually seen throwing the tourbillon timepiece onto the marble coffee table and floors to demonstrate its extreme resilience. This watch, which holds two patents, features a tourbillon integrated into its complex chronograph movement. It is made exclusively for Graham by La Joux-Perret, and is the result of four years of research and development.

Bell & Ross, while showcasing its strong military and aviation expertise, also exhibited its alluring new Argentium (a high-tech silver alloy) watches as well as two Jumping Hours Louis Moinettimepieces created by the brand in cooperation with independent watchmaker Vincent Calabrese. Louis Moinet brought some of its amazing new inventions to Vegas, as well, with superb complications for men and women.

In the military watch arena, Ball Watch unveiled  the Engineer Hydrocarbon NEDU military watch dedicated to the U.S. Navy Experimental Diving Unit. This new timepiece is the first diving watch with a patented helium release valve incorporated into the crown. Water resistant to 600 meters, the ruggedly constructed watch case is 17.3 mm at Ball Watch Co.’s NEDUits thickest point – making it strong enough for such depths. Similarly, Bremont reinforced its aviation and military ties with the new Bremont C17 and ALT1-WR world timer watch with Roto-Click bezel that enables the user to work out the global time zones using the international landing location in 24 zones. The ALT1-WT model won the People’s Choice award at the Couture Time Contest.

Off the Cuff: Michael Kors Watches Bring Great Looks for Great Prices

By Samantha Walsh

Michael Kors is probably one of today’s biggest names in fashion watches. With their beautiful appearance and high-end looks for reasonable prices, I knew it was going to be a difficult decision as to which watch was right for me. I was buying this watch, not just borrowing it to test drive.

After scouring the Michael Kors website for hours going through dozens and dozens of magnificent watches in tons of different styles and colors, I came to the conclusion that the rose gold tone watches really stood out to me. The issue then was that Michael Kors offers many different styles of rose gold watches! Such a selection required much contemplation and decision-making as every single watch I came across was one I would have loved to own.

In the end, I decided upon the Mid-Size Rose Golden Stainless Steel Parker Chronograph Glitz Watch. I am in love with the watch and wear it daily! It’s very versatile in that it is both a dressy and casual watch. The crystal-encrusted bezel is wonderfully flashy and gives it a great feminine touch. My favorite part of the watch is the white mother of pearl dial. I feel that iridescent nature of the dial with its subtle color ties together the white crystals and the rose gold into a magnificent watch. The stainless steel case and bracelet is rose gold plated, and the watch offers a chronograph function.

I have not worn this watch for one day without receiving a compliment. Both men and women alike admire its beauty. I get compliments not only on its appearance, but also about how expensive and high-end it looks, and that’s the greatest part. This watch retails for $250. While I would love to have a truly expensive, high-end watch, on a college student’s budget, I can’t afford that yet.  For now, in the realm of fashion timepieces, this is by far my favorite watch.

The only downfall I can find to this watch is that the gold-plated bracelet shows some small scratches, although they are not noticeable unless looking closely. Despite that very small flaw this watch has worked perfectly for me.

Affordable Watch Week: JBW Touts Steamy Moments with its Hot New Watches

A modern and edgy new brand, JBW Timepieces offers new men’s and women’s collections crafted in stainless steel, leather, rubber or ceramic with Swiss movements and diamonds. According to the brand’s literature and marketing stance, luxury can also convey raw attitude and daring edge.  This concept is carried though in the brand’s catalog, advertising and marketing via some sexy shots of men and women together, as well as some solo shots of each wearing JBW watches.

The message: wear this watch and you’ll look like this or enjoy this activity. Will you? Well, I must say that the watches are steamy, sexy and boldly fun to wear. Among the more powerful looks is the G4 jet-inspired watch with an unusual dial that is meant to resemble the cockpit of the gulfstream G4 jet. The 52mm watch offers three time zones and a great case/bezel design that sports a few diamonds innovatively placed. The caseback of the watch is engraved with a world map. Other collections include a dynamite digital piece called the DMC-12 and some cool ceramic watches. The collections retails from about $300 to $700.  This is a brand well worth the look at.
