Off the Cuff: Corum’s Golden Bridge on the wrist

It isn’t every day one gets to truly enjoy the beauty of time and space, but wearing this Corum Golden Bridge rose gold timepiece I got to do just that. A marvelous piece of art and technology, the $54,700 watch is created in a limited edition of 600 pieces. While not a true watchmaking complication in the strictest sense of the word, it is a superb complexity thanks to the linear construction of the floating baguette movement. The vertical bridge holds each of the hundreds of tiny barrels, wheels, plates and pinions in a row, while the sapphire case back, dial and even case sides allow for an unobstructed view. It’s mesmerizing to look at while on the wrist, and off – and is a real eye catcher with the in-line caliber that seems to be floating in space. The crown is strategically placed on top of the watch case so as not to obstruct any view. It’s a keeper.
